Wolff: "If I'm the barrier to success, I'm happy to leave!"

Wolff: "If I'm the barrier to success, I'm happy to leave!"

Krisztián Márk Tóth |

Dark days for the eight-time world constructors' champion, one of the most, if not the most, successful Formula One team of all time. And it doesn't look like that's going to change overnight...

Mercedes has been winless since 2022 and the situation is getting worse. So much so, that the team's chief success-maker Toto Wolff has found himself saying that if someone can do their job better than him, he's happy to give them the seat for the good of the team. An unusual statement, to be sure:

"At the Australian Grand Prix, we were struggling with the same issues we have always struggled with in the past. There were moments when we massively lacked pace, then there were moments when we were okay, but we're still not where we want to be. No one, including myself, is positive about where we are, but we need to focus on getting out of the hole. It is a very difficult situation, but we must remain calm and balanced. I'm trying to be optimistic about the situation, but I would be the first to give way if someone came along and was able to override all that... On the other hand, I would be shocked if that happened, because I feel we are not far away from the moment when things can come together and we can easily turn the situation around from there," said a self-critical and somewhat despondent Toto Wolff.
